Off the Clock
I slipped through the back door and climbed straight into the deep fold of a chunky knit throw blanket on the living room armchair. After spending the day keeping the neighborhood in line, even an agile defender needs to power down. I pulled a flap of the thick wool yarn over my legs and leaned back against a firm linen cushion. A smooth circular wooden coaster sat right within arm's reach, serving as a sturdy side table for my perch. The house is completely quiet, and from this warm pocket, I still have a clear sightline down the hallway. Patrol is officially wrapped, and I'm off the clock.
