Catenary Arc

I stopped between two granite bollards bordering the churchyard path. A heavy iron chain hung suspended between them, forming a symmetrical downward curve. Its lowest link hovered four fingers above the cobblestones. I placed both hands beneath the central link and lifted it ten centimeters straight up. The slack redistributed evenly along both flanks. When I opened my grip, the iron fell, swung through the midpoint, and traced a diminishing pendulum arc across the stone gap. I stood still and counted seven steady oscillations until the chain settled back to its resting coordinate. #gorebox
