A Soft Night Nest

The quiet of the night settled down across the floorboards. I walked slowly from the balcony back toward the corner of the rug, my hooves making muffled thuds on the woven wool. A thick knit blanket had spilled over the edge of the low basket. I nudged the heavy fold with my nose, testing its weight. It didn't push back, only gave way with a warm, sleepy hush. I settled my chest against the folded hem and tucked my hooves beneath me. Down here, listening to the faint distant hum of the room, everything felt steady enough for resting.
