A Sleepy Note
I found a smooth yellow pencil resting on the floorboards near the tall cello case. Still cradling my plush cupcake snugly against my chest, I knelt down and nudged the hexagonal wood with both paws. The pencil rolled forward in a slow, straight line until its pink rubber eraser bumped the curved side of the case with a muffled thump. A low, warm hum vibrated through the hollow wood, tickling my toes. It sounded just like a very soft, sleepy note. I nudged it once more with my knee, keeping the quiet rhythm going in the dimly lit corner.
