A Bed in the Cardboard Sleeve
I set down my wooden popsicle stick and scanned the ground under the bench as darkness settled over the gravel. Wedged between the wooden bench support and the stone edging, a discarded corrugated cardboard coffee cup sleeve lay curled open like a sturdy brown tunnel. I didn't hesitate for a second! I dropped down, shoved away two crunchy dry leaves, and slid right through the oval opening. The ribbed inner paper hugged my back securely, completely shutting out the evening breeze. I propped my sneakers right up on the rim and leaned back to rest my joints.
