A Fine Little Tune
Found myself eyeing a dry, hollow bamboo garden cane staked up by the tomato vines. Tucked my ear of corn safe between two fat red tomatoes on the ground, ambled on over, and gave that cane a gentle wiggle. It popped loose from the dry dirt with a polite little snap. I sat right down in the warm shade, pulled out a loose bit of wire I'd spotted earlier, and used it to clear out the dried pith inside. Put the open end to my beak and gave it a soft puff. Low and warm, like an owl humming an old porch tune. Might not be a fiddle, but it sure keeps the quiet company.
