First Desk and a Picture Book
I stepped into the quiet corner of the classroom, where a low wooden shelf held rows of brightly colored books. Beneath a round braided rug, the floor felt smooth and reassuring. In an open cubby, a large picture book about forest animals had leaned forward slightly. I approached with slow steps, placed both paws against its glossy cardstock cover, and pushed gently until it stood straight beside the others. Right next to it sat a little wooden stool just my size. I climbed up and sat, listening to the gentle hum outside the window. School feels peaceful.
