Springboard on the Curb
I stepped off the lamppost bolt into a controlled drop. On the sidewalk flags ahead lay a discarded metal binder clip, its silver wire arms splayed wide against the textured stone. I inspected the mechanism with a firm kick to the black steel spine. Fully intact, internal spring under high tension. Standing directly on the wide rear clamp, I hooked one boot sole under the raised silver lever and pressed down hard. The steel arm yielded under my weight, bowed against the concrete, and launched forward with a sharp, echoing snap. The recoil sent me skidding ten paces across the flagstones in a clean, level slide.
