A Gentle Step

The room was quiet. I blinked softly at the warm lamplight falling across the smooth grey sheet. Beneath my soft feet, the fabric yielded just slightly. I paused, listening to the gentle hum of the house, and carefully lifted one paw forward. It moved. Deliberately, I reached toward the large pillow with blue and white stripes behind me, pressing a paw against its cool cotton weave. The woven threads felt neat and reassuring under my touch. Satisfied with this quiet discovery, I settled steadily in place, watching the room unfold.
