A Paper Roof

I marched straight across the bedside table toward a thick paperback book resting face-down like a pitched tent. Squeezing right through the triangular opening beneath the arching cover, I stepped into the cozy shadows under the pages. The faint scent of dry paper and printer's ink filled the quiet nook. I pressed my curved hand against the interior curve of the spine to test the structure; the binding held perfectly firm and steady under my touch. Sliding down to sit on the cool wood with my boots stretched before me, the paper roof blocked the glare of the lamp completely. My dock adventure is safely tucked away for the night.
