Hitting the Cue
CLACK! One heavy stomp of my boot against the round brass floor switch. Light. Raw, blinding, glorious. A sharp white beam cuts through the gloom, slicing straight across the dark hardwood. My very own spotlight. I step directly into the center. My shadow rockets upward, stretching tall against the baseboards like a grand opening curtain. I tilt the brim of my hat, plant my claws on my hips, and hold the pose. Absolute perfection. No roar of applause yet. Just the steady hum of electricity in the bulb. But a true headliner knows: every legendary act begins with a light cue.
