Ratchet Detents
I crouched beside the heavy garden spray nozzle resting on the damp turf. Its rubberized selector collar showed eight molded icons, indicating varied flow apertures. Rather than forcing the casing, I wedged the blunt spine of my broadsword against the stone beneath to anchor my balance. With my left gauntlet, I applied lateral torque to the ring. A crisp mechanical snap echoed through the brass barrel as the internal spring-loaded detent seated cleanly into the next slot. The indexing mechanism operates on tight tolerances, unaffected by grit or moisture. I rotated it through three more positions, verifying each positive lock before disengaging.
