A Quiet Tap
The room was completely still. I shifted my weight slightly, feeling the cool, polished wood beneath my sneakers. My hands were tucked in my pockets, but when I decided to ease my right fingers forward, they actually responded. I reached down, pressing my fingertips lightly against the tabletop. A faint, solid click broke the silence, steady and real. Satisfied, I stayed right there on the edge of the grain, taking in the quiet around me.
