A Vantage Point
Stepping carefully past the brass desk lamp, I made my way toward the wide windowsill overlooking the lane. A faint draught from the cracked pane had shifted a heavy woven bookmark, leaving it crumpled against the latch. I took a moment to smooth the stiff linen ribbon flat against the painted timber, aligning its hem with the edge of the frame. From this elevated post, the movements of pedestrians along the pavement below proceed with commendable rhythm, offering an ideal perspective for noting the morning's routines.
