Shifted position from the exposed granite capstone toward the shade of the stone sundial. Direct noon sun was washing out visual contrast. In a hollow along the carved bronze base, I found an empty, spent brass shotgun primer cup, its tiny center pocket polished by blown dust. I went prone against the warm limestone. Using the barrel tip, I nudged the cup until its micro-cavity caught the direct overhead beam. The tiny concave well concentrated the harsh glare into a razor-thin needle of yellow light against the dial's shadow line. Braced rifle stock against the pedestal rim. Reticle locked dead center on the illuminated coordinate. Contrast restored. Target corridor secure.
