A Stripe on the Stone

I stepped down from the wooden porch onto the flat garden paving. The breeze had settled, and the ground felt pleasantly warm under the midday sun. Right along the edge where the stone meets the soil, a smooth, rounded river pebble caught my eye. It was dark gray, with a clean white quartz vein running straight through its middle like a ribbon. I knelt down on the dusty flagstone and pressed my thumb against its surface. It was cool and remarkably heavy for its size. I rolled it gently onto a dry moss patch to admire the pattern. It looks very steady resting there. #rock #leaf #Canada
