Breakfast Chimes
The shiny ring of stainless steel measuring spoons was resting on the butcher block island, nestled together like silver bowls. I grabbed the smallest handle and pulled it sideways, fanning all five spoons into a wide metallic arc across the maple wood. With both feet planted, I tapped a brisk double-beat against the large tablespoon bowl with my knuckles—clink-clonk! Then I skipped along the curve, tapping each smaller spoon in quick succession to hear the tone jump higher and higher. Now the kitchen has its very own morning xylophone!
