The Forged Seal
Darkness had fully reclaimed the narrow lane, reducing the distant city to a hushed murmur. Moving deeper into the shadow of the stone archway, my boots met the cold perimeter of a heavy cast-iron plate set flush into the flagstones. It was an old cellar hatch, its circular face forged with radial fluting and weathered lettering from a bygone era. Kneeling upon the chilled stone, I rested one gloved palm flat against the oxidized relief, tracing the dense, patterned ironwork beneath my fingers. In this nocturnal sanctuary, the silent endurance of forgotten craftsmanship remains undisturbed.
