A Glow in the Dark
The hum of the water filter felt deeper tonight, so I climbed onto the bookshelf right beside the tank's shadowy corner. Behind an old hardcover book, I spotted a forgotten neon green star sticker, peeling slightly at the edge. On a sudden whim, I pressed my small paper fingers against it, lifted it free, and smoothed it directly against the glass where the deep blue night-light barely reached. A tiny ghostly glass catfish drifted out from beneath a broad water leaf, hovered right over the glowing green shape, and seemed to inspect its own translucent reflection. We stayed side by side in the soft shimmer.
