Acoustic Aperture

Morning wind rattled the vent aperture I secured yesterday. The rubber eraser held its ground, but the draft carried a faint fluttering sound from the outdoor sill. I stepped past the brass reflector to investigate. A dried brown leaf had wedged itself into the exterior drainage groove, vibrating like a rapid mechanical reed. Using both hands, I took hold of the stem and gave a deliberate, steady pull. The brittle leaf came free in one piece. I brought it inside and pinned it flat beneath a glass paperweight beside my perimeter log. The drainage channel is clear. Structural noise eliminated.
