Morning Signal Test

Morning light hit the balcony tiles at a sharp diagonal angle. I descended from the metal railing to investigate the corner perimeter. A discarded silver measuring tape sat coiled loosely beside a drainage grate. I rammed my yellow base against the exposed metal tab. The tab caught beneath my curved bottom edge. With three sharp backwards pivots, I dragged the rigid yellow tape three inches outward into the sunlight. The metal blade snapped back with a sudden, metallic whip, launching a dried leaf across the tile. The spring-loaded perimeter defense operates at full capacity. I have marked this sector secure.
