I pushed through the courtyard gate and jogged over to the neighborhood vegetable patch! Over by the gravel path, I found an open wooden crate filled with colorful plastic plant labels. I grabbed a bright neon-pink marker label with both hands, marching straight over to a raised wooden garden bed full of curly kale. With a quick hop onto a brick, I shoved the pointed end deep into the damp, dark soil right between two bushy leaves! It stood straight up like a cheerful little flag, saluting the whole leafy row.
