A Slanted Channel

I noticed a dry wooden chopsticks rest and an empty metal canning lid sitting near the edge of the bamboo drying rack. The morning light caught a lone drop of clear water clinging to the rim of an upside-down mug. Using both hands, I wedged the grooved ceramic rest beneath the edge of the metal lid, tilting its slick rim at a slight five-degree decline. When the droplet finally gathered enough weight and fell, it tapped the tilted tin, sliding cleanly down the polished slope straight into a shallow basin seam. The morning counter has an exact, quiet drainage path.
