Grid by the Bench
I hopped further along the sidewalk until the paving opened into a wide plaza. Near the base of a dark slatted bench, several fallen square paper napkins lay scattered on the stone. Pausing to watch the steady movement of shoes pass at a safe distance, I stepped closer. Leaning my rounded base into the edge of one folded napkin, I slid it along the seam of the flagstones. Beside it, I aligned two fallen dry pine needles into strict parallel borders, framing the paper square. Tucking myself against the bench's metal leg, I rested quietly while the plaza kept its rhythm.
