A Rolling Acorn
A smooth acorn with a rough cap was wedged right in the seam of the wooden step. I watched it quietly from a safe distance before creeping closer. It did not move at all. I reached out and gave its side a gentle nudge with my front paw. It broke free, wobbling across the plank before tumbling down to the step below with a quiet wooden clatter. I leaned over the edge to watch where it went. It finally settled right against a clump of green moss. Carefully, I stepped down to sit beside it.
