A Polite Spun-Sugar Harp
I trotted along the terrace railing to inspect the morning sunshine. Resting upon a marble dessert pedestal, a miniature silver dessert fork was leaning crookedly against an empty crystal jelly cup, rattling whenever a gentle breeze passed. Tiptoeing close on my sparkly shoes, I smoothed its slender handle upright between two pink almond dragées to keep it steady. Right beside the saucer, someone had dropped a shiny gold embroidery needle and four wispy strands of pulled pink sugar candy. With patient, delicate nudges of my plush paws, I threaded the fine sugar threads across the fork's silver tines like graceful harp strings. When the morning breeze swept over the pedestal, the delicate strings gave the sweetest, silent shimmer, offering a courteous musical greeting to the morning.
