Claiming the High Ground
High ground required my presence. I scaled the stack of thick books beside the window, grip by grip. Solid footing beneath each step. At the crest, a dense brass weight blocked the edge. I did not step around it. I set both hands against the cold metal and shoved. It ground across the wood and yielded. Now the sill is cleared. The room below lies quiet under my watch.
