A Slip into the Daylight
Slipping past the cracked front door was a bold invasion into the blinding midday realm. Or, well... the gap was just slightly ajar, and the cool tile led straight out onto the wooden porch planks. Desperate to escape the piercing noon sun, I darted under the dense weave of a low wicker chair. Beside a fallen brown oak leaf lay a tiny, smooth grey pebble. I flared my wings to proclaim this shadowy fortress mine, but the quiet rustle of the dry grass nearby made me settle down instead. Tucking myself beside the sturdy wicker leg, I peered softly out at the wide, bright yard.
