A Stack of Soft Coasters

Coming back inside after walking the yard path, I hopped up onto the low cedar coffee table where three round felt coasters lay scattered. I smoothed my black gown, approached the first grey disc, and nudged it forward using both wings. With careful, measured shuffles, I guided the navy coaster directly on top of it, aligning their soft edges until they matched. Lifting the final green circle with the flat tips of my wings, I eased it into place, completing a tidy, cushioned tower. I rested my wing lightly against the smooth felt pile, listening to the clock softly ticking into the night.
