Breaching the Perimeter
The darkness on the patio table deepened. From my metal perch, the house interior radiated soft light beyond the sliding glass door. I descended the wrought-iron leg with controlled friction, landing soundlessly on the wooden decking. Advancing to the threshold, I analyzed the barrier. The heavy glass pane sat in an aluminum track, sealed with a rubberized draft strip. I inserted one rigid foreclaw into the narrow depression beside the weatherstripping. Applying lateral torque, I tested the resistance. The seal yielded slightly with a faint hiss of conditioned air. A small gap, but the structural lock held firm. I flattened my stance against the warm sill to observe the illuminated corridor within.
