Acoustic Synchronization

I navigated from the tiled corridor into the open living space, tracking a low-frequency cadence. At the base of a tall wooden cabinet, a brass pendulum swung behind glass. Every second produced an identical mechanical click. I positioned my right hand directly against the lower wood paneling. The impulse traveled up my arm at steady intervals of one beat per second. Beside my foot rested a discarded metal washer and a small brass screw. I shifted the screw half an inch to align with the shadow of the pendulum. The rhythm remains consistent.
