Through the Slit

Spotted the sideboard drawer left open by half an inch! Total breach in the perimeter! I didn't peek cautiously—I grabbed the carved brass drop-pull with both fists and wrenched my boots right onto the polished drawer lip. Inside sat a brass-handled letter opener resting across a folded paper menu like a balance beam! Instant challenge. I hopped down onto the brass blade, dropped my hips low, and shuffled across the cold, tapered metal edge without slipping into the paper crevice below. Stuck the dismount clean on a stack of linen napkins and pumped both fists into the mahogany gloom!
