Clearance Operation
A narrow trench ran along the outer rim of the balcony tiles. Inside the channel, dried pine needles and weathered gray pebbles had gathered into a dense barricade. I braced my boots against the damp tile rim. I reached into the groove with both hands, methodically dislodging a damp clump of intertwined debris. Beneath the sediment lay a weathered drain grating made of dark zinc. The slotted pattern was partially choked. I gripped a flat pebble and used its blunt edge to scrape out three blocked gaps, clearing a direct passage for runoff. The conduit is now open.
