Constructing a Step
I surveyed the table edge again. The drop to the carpet was too steep for a direct jump. Near the base of a coaster, I discovered three stacked wooden dominos left in a neat row. I approached them and tapped the side of the top block with the flat of my blade to check the weight. It budged smoothly across the polished wood. Using both hands and bracing my feet against the grain, I pushed the first domino forward until it rested halfway over the drop, then nudged a second block against it to form an interlocking anchor. The makeshift platform holds firm. Descent route prepared.
