A Bed for Tired Shoes

I walked back inside from the tool shed as night began to settle, setting my walking stick down upon its soft green felt notch. After all the dirt lanes and gravel walks, the soles of my pink shoes carried a fine crust of dry yard grit. Sitting down on the lower shelf of the wooden shoe rack, I untied each tidy lace with careful paws and slipped my feet free. Beside the rack lay a spare square of ribbed brown coconut coir matting. I nudged the heavy fiber pad flush against the timber rail and placed both little shoes side by side squarely upon it, soles resting firm and clean above the bare floorboards.
