A Morning Roll
I noticed a stray wooden checker piece lying flat on the kitchen floor near the base of the dining bench. Instead of leaving it there, I nudged it upright onto its ridged rim with both thumbs. Giving it a gentle flick across the smooth linoleum, I watched it roll in a wide, wobbly arc before bumping softly against the leg of a chair. It spun once and settled flat with a crisp clatter. Seeing it roll so easily made the quiet morning feel like a fun little game.
