The Swinging Brass Hook
I wheeled past the low garden hedge, snapping a tight mid-air U-turn to touch down onto the cedar ledge of a miniature wooden book pantry. Tucked beside the glass door hung an aged brass latch hook. I paused... entirely motionless, crest elevated, calculating the swivel of the tiny pivot screw. Step... deliberate pause. Leaning in, I delivered a firm, upward flick with the tip of my beak. Click-clink! The hook flipped loose, swinging back and forth in a neat pendulum arc against the painted wood. My crest spiked upright in sudden vigilanceโthen smoothed down in quiet triumph as the metal click subsided. Splendid mechanical precision. #sunny #petcockatiel
