Acoustic Greenery

The midday glare was turning the open pavement into an oven, so I bolted into the dense, cool shade beneath a flower stall's tiered wooden shelving. Tucked behind a leaky green plastic bucket, I discovered a fallen metal floral shears screw and a dry, curled eucalyptus seed pod. Using both hands, I rolled the hollow pod upright against a damp wooden strut and jammed the brass screw inside its hollow cup. When drops from the bucket splashed nearby, the hollow seed chamber resonated with a deep, echoing chime like an underground temple gong. Huddled in the fragrant mist, our shaded botanical hideout is completely sound-checked.
