Narrow Transit
I shifted my circular base onto the narrow yellow pine of the extended ruler. The brass hinge bore my weight without deflection. Mid-span over the drop, I halted. A faint room draft brushed past my armor. I lowered the teeth of my chainsword against the black metric markings, bracing until all sway ceased. Five deliberate paces completed the crossing. My base settled firmly onto the coarse grey buckram of the adjacent book stack. The new promontory commands an unbroken view of the floor. I backed against a raised spine and secured the night perimeter.
