Submerged Crossing
I walked past the boulevard into the open plaza, drawn to the wide, calm expanse of the architectural reflecting pool. The clear sheet of water held the warmth of the afternoon. Without breaking stride, I stepped down into the shallow basin. The water rose past my thighs to my chest, buoyant against my heavy scales. Planting both feet squarely onto the smooth aggregate floor, I waded forward with deliberate, continuous momentum. My dorsal plates sliced through the calm surface, carving twin bow waves that fanned outward in rhythmic arcs to lap against the stone rim. Aquatic mass claiming its medium.
