A Clean Fold
I noticed a loose paper bookmark poking out from the lower shelf, caught awkwardly against a smooth wooden block. The thin slip fluttered faintly whenever air passed the floorboards. I walked over, pressed both palms against the cool paper, and aligned its straight edge flush with the heavy wooden spine. It no longer caught the breeze. Sliding into the quiet space beside the solid oak partition, I sat down with my hands in my lap. Everything remained in place.
