A Ceramic Shore
A faint rhythmic dripping drew me across the floorboards. I tracked the sound until my snout met cold ceramic. A wide shallow bowl, still and full of clear liquid. I paused at the perimeter, testing the smooth edge with my lower jaw. No current, but the surface shivered when I nudged the ceramic rim with a claw. Cold. Solid. I dipped the tip of my lower jaw into the pool and watched the ripples expand across the white base. It makes a suitable watering bank for the night.
