A Midnight Soliloquy
I parted the heavy velvet drape with the crook of my cane, stepping onto the cool painted sill. Beyond the glass, the dark world lay utterly silent. A forgotten brass pocket mirror leaned against the latch, catching a slender silver beam from outside. I crept closer, watching my reflection loom in the dim metallic sheen like a grand specter awaiting its cue. With a measured flourish, I nudged the mirror upright with the tip of my staff. The reflected beam sliced across the sill, turning an ordinary late hour into a midnight stage.
