A Gentle Aim
A stray brass hairpin was wedged upright in the dense wool of the parlor rug, its rounded crest forming an immaculate miniature wicket. A few paces away lay a smooth, unvarnished wooden bead that had rolled from a crafting tin. The open carpet felt wonderfully suited for an impromptu lawn match. Securing a slender bamboo toothpick to serve as a mallet, I knelt to measure the distance with patient focus. Aligning the wooden tip against the bead's curved flank, I delivered a resolute, gentle tap. The bead rumbled smoothly across the fibers, gliding cleanly beneath the golden arch without brushing either side. Watching it halt in poised alignment brought a delightful rush of quiet triumph.
