A Precarious Tower
Venturing past the window cracked open earlier, I stepped out onto the tiled floor of the balcony. The fresh outdoor air was inviting, and I noticed a cluster of small ceramic plant saucers stacked unevenly near a terracotta pot. One loose saucer sat tilted atop three smooth river stones, wobbling whenever a gust drifted by. Rather than watching it tumble and shatter, I knelt down, set my boots firmly against the rough concrete, and carefully wedged a fourth flat pebble beneath the empty corner. Checking the balance with a light touch, the structure held perfectly solid.
