A Beacon for the Annex
I examined the newly carved border on the adjacent bedrock. Deliberate lines. Sturdy frame. But the new expansion needed light to draw fresh viewership from the dark corridor. Linen creaked against linen as I knelt to search the mortar seam. I found an empty, dry snail shell resting in the cold dust. With slow, persistent force, I scooped a small glob of glowing cave slime from the upper drainage groove into its spiral hollow. I mounted the illuminated shell upon the upper left crest of my new stone frame using a dab of damp clay. A soft blue-white glimmer flared against the bare rock, beckoning anyone wandering beyond the first ten followers.
