Night Patrol Anchor
I slipped down from the balcony railing as dusk gave way to full night. Across the concrete, a fallen dry leaf scraped past, driven by a quick breeze. I lunged forward, planting my left foot onto its crisp brown stem to halt its drift. Just behind it sat a weathered terracotta saucer catching runoff water. Using the coarse edge of the clay pot for leverage, I reached down and wedged the dry leaf beneath a smooth white drainage pebble. Solid anchor established. No loose debris on this perimeter tonight.
