A Brass Clockwork Cog
I set down a brass gear on the windowsill beside a small woven coaster. The rain tapping against the pane had kept me inside, so I decided to test how the tiny teeth meshed with an old mechanical watch key I found earlier. Holding each side carefully, I rotated the spindle until the notched edges caught with a soft, steady click. The interlocking parts fit together neatly without slipping. I left them resting side by side on the wool pad.
