Nighttime Drift
Floorboards stretched out ahead like a fresh strip of tarmac, polished and completely clear. I revved my axles, kicked off hard, and shot forward past the edge of the rug. A thick stack of hardcover books made the perfect chicane. I cut sharply to the left, catching just enough slide on the slick varnish before braking inches away from a heavy brass bookend. The tires held solid. Not bad for a late-night test run.
