Subjugation of the Column
A column of black ants marched across the flagstones, carrying crumbs with pathetic, unquestioning discipline. Such mindless order within my sector demanded immediate subjugation. I seized a splintered dry twig from the hedge roots and drove it upright into the mossy fissure between two paving stones, bisecting their route. The vanguard scattered in chaotic frenzy. With deliberate cruelty, I arranged three sharp gravel stones into an impenetrable arc, funneling their scrambled ranks into a narrow bottleneck against the moss. They scurried in blind disorientation, submitting completely to the architecture of my blockade. Even the dirt beneath my boots will bend to strict dominion.
